Maria Caterina Carlini graduated with full marks at Conservatorio “A. Boito” in Parma.
She has followed specialisation courses in Italy and abroad with C. Romano, Z. Gilels,, P. Vernikov, M. Waiman, I. Grubert for violin, with A. Meunier, V. Mendelssohn, K. Bogino for chamber music. While being awarded numerous national prizes, She has performed regularly as a duo, trio, quartet, and quintet member, but also as a soloist with orchestra.
She was chosen, in 1993, by the famous padagogue Zinaida Gilels, assistant to Yuri Jankilevich, the founder of the Russian Violin School, to continue in her footsteps in the Accademia di Perfezionamento Violinistico in Portogruaro. There, she has collaborated with the violinist Pavel Vernikov as his assistant for nearly twenty years.
Besides her activity as a pedagogue, she pursues a carreer as a recitalist and chamber musician, as well as a theatre director, where she is particularly interested in combining different art forms.
She has recorded works by Amilcare Zanella for Tactus: his two piano trios in 2003 and his piano quintet and nonet for strings and winds in 2005.
Her students have been awarded many prizes at national and international competitions world-wide (Postacchini Competition, Grumiaux Competition, Kogan Competition, Luxemburg Competition, American Protegè and Crescendo in NY, A. Rubinstein in Dusseldorf etc. etc)
Maria Caterina Carlini founded the Zinaida GilelsViolin Academy in San Vito al Tagliamento in 2008 and, in 2010, the Zinaida Gilels Violin School in Vittorio Veneto and Portogruaro (VE), a teaching center focused on the development of young violin talents.
She currently holds professorships in Violin, and History of Violin Repertoire at Conservatorio “G. Verdi” in Milan.
